x1-development
The X-1 Intake was developed to deliver the cool, dense, fresh air this tuning requires. Since any turbocharger works on a pressure ratio, the more cool dense air at the compressor's inlet the faster it can achieve requested boost for less lag. The less work the turbo has to do maintain this pressure the less it will HEAT the intake charge. An intake's efficiency can be measured by the amount of pressure drop ahead of the turbos at wide open throttle. The X-1 Intake system measured HALF the pressure drop of an RS4 airbox (-1psi vs -2+psi).

Many already realize the benefit of a large, open element filter. Unfortunately with unshielded designs that benefit is somewhat compromised, especially at lower speeds as the engine may be getting less pressure drop through a big filter, but it's aspirating hot air that's already gone past the intercoolers, radiator, and exhaust manifolds. The X-1 Intake's unique heatshield gathers fresh air from the stock snorkel feed, around the headlight, and in front of the radiator and intercooler; all high-pressure sources of fresh unheated air. The weatherstrip on the top seam of the airbox seals to the underside of the hood when it's closed.

Previously an ITG filter was used with our design, but it was found that the newly available AEM Dryflow filters provide both superior flow and lessened contamination of the mass airflow element.

Fitment and Installation:The air filter and piping can be sized to fit the stock S4 MAF housing, RS4 MAF, or ANY aftermarket MAF housing. The install job takes some basic tools and the courage to drill two holes in your firewall to mount the Ignition Control Module heatsink. All included hardware is either aluminum or stainless steel, all made in the USA.

Availability and Pricing:Finding a composite shop capable of producing consistent parts has proved daunting in the past, but a reliable source has been found albeit at an increased cost. Complete Kit Includes: AEM 2049DK air filter, pipe, hose sections, and stainless hose clamps, PSOM heatsink and hardware, the shield fully trimmed with weatherstrip and mounting bracket. The pricing is currently $440 + $35 shipping in the US(please contact us directly to arrrange for other shipping options before purchasing).
